Alustin is tall and lanky, with a head of unruly brown hair. His eyes always have the glint of curiosity and the corners of his lips pull towards a smile. He carries no visible weapons.

Alustin is likely to come in from three different points in his life; as an apprentice (teen), a journeyman (young adult), and a master (adult).

As an apprentice, he is tall and skinny compared to other kids his age and will usually be wearing a gray tunic style uniform to reflect his apprenticeship with the Head Librarian at the Skyhold University; which is both a school for mages and a powerful city state. He caries a haversack (which is stuffed with books, snacks, paper, and book binding supplies) and a satchel (also stuffed with books and papers).

As a journeyman, he is just reaching his height and is beginning to fill out some. He'll never be powerfully build, but his skinny frame has turned to wiry. He has left behind his haversack and now just carries the satchel, which seems even more stuffed with books, scrolls, and papers. His gray tunic is now a jacket and he tends to dress more for travel.

As a master and librarian errant, Alustic will have a blue stylized geometric tattoo on his right forearm. This tattoo looks like an alchemical or magic circle from popular media. For those who have the senses to tell, (spoiler). His manner is more relaxed and he's allowed his beard to grow in on occasion. His gray jacket now has red trim and he tends to wear loose pants tucked into calf-length boots. He still has the overstuffed satchel, and will seem to pull things from it that shouldn't fit. Also, if the need ever arises, he can pull an enchanted sabre from it which can cut through just about anything (from his world).

Alustin is a mage and his affinities are for farseeing and paper. As an apprentice his mana reservoirs are not too potent, thus he can only cast a few spells and such. As he grows older and works his mana skills, his reservoirs will grow and become quite vast as an adult.

• Magic energy, or aether, in his world is a direct result of the death of the universe. Sentient beings channel and filter the aether into mana, which they then use to create magical effects. Since the mana is filtered, it changes and becomes specialized based on the mage. Mages tend to have one or more affinities due to this, areas in which magic is both easier, safer, and more potent to cast than using unchanneled aether.
